- The short answer is "Get distinctive ringing" but another
- consideration is to use comm software that recognizes the different
- ringing signals. QuickLink, or whatever the name is of the furnished
- comms software for Power for the PC does have the ability to
- recognize the signals passed to it from the modem; not all comm
- programs can do that. Power sends RING A or RING B to indicate a
- response to a distinctive ring. QuickLink allows you to ignore or
- answer any or all of the distictive rings and to select which (data
- or fax...or both) way to answer the call.
-
- There is no method using the Power modem that will allow
- determination of a voice call from a data call. Unless the calling
- modem is specifically commanded into a "reverse" mode, data calls
- have no identifying signal to alert the receiving device. Compare
- this to a fax call which does send a recurrent beep (Calling tone,
- CNG tone) to allow switching equipment to route the call after it is
- answered.
-
- Good luck.
